About National Judges Cup

The National Judges Cup is an annual fundraising invitational to benefit the National Association of Women's Gymnastics Judges (NAWGJ). Funds raised from this competition are used to further judges' education nationally and support the annual operating budget of the National Association of Women's Gymnastics Judges.

The National Judges Cup is the only traveling annual invitational in the country that changes city locations each year. It is the mission of NAWGJ to move this event to a different city each year to show support of the judges in each state and allow their member judges the opportunity to see gymnastics in all regions of the country.

The National Judges Cup is the only invitational in the country that supports a four (4) judge panel for all levels of competition. This competition sets a nationwide base score as judges representing an average of over 28 states judge together and have the opportunity to review rule interpretations and recent changes made by the national office. This event also affords judges and participants the opportunity to judge with and be judged by some of the most recognized and prestigious judges in the country.

The National Judges Cup features the prestigious Level 7 All Star State Team Challenge. Six member teams representing each state compete for the title of Level 7 State Team Champion. Team NorCal is the current reigning Level 7 State Team Champion for 2016.

The National Judges Cup is traditionally held the first weekend of January following the New Year.

The National Judges Cup awards more medals and awards than any other national invitational in the country as age groups are broken down further than R&P recommendations. Each participant is also recognized on the awards stand with an all-around award presented in the official awards ceremony.

State Team Chat

"The National Judges Cup experience was incredible! Traveling across the country to Covington, Kentucky with six new friends was awesome! Out of the many things I loved from this trip, I'd have to say becoming friends with six other amazing gymnasts was my favorite part. Competing with each other as a team, and encouraging each other to do our best to represent NorCal was amazing. This was an unforgettable experience and I will always remember it."

Judges' Eye View

I was fortunate enough to attend the 2016 National Judges' Cup in Kentucky. Four of us, including our SJD, were able to attend and represent Nor Cal. This was my first opportunity to attend National Judges' Cup; it was such a memorable event.

I was playing so many different roles at the meet. The most valuable time was spent connecting with more experienced judges than myself on four judge panels for every event, and judging gymnasts from all over the country. I was thrilled to judge during the Level 7 session especially! At such a large competition, I was able to judge every event and nearly every level.

National Judges' Cup was an amazing chance to meet and work with judges from Hawaii to Maine (which I did!). I really got a sense of the wealth of knowledge and the breadth of experience of NAWGJ. The sense of commitment to, and love for gymnastics, was overwhelming. I would go again in a heartbeat!
