If you have never judged a College Meet, or if you took a break, this is the year to start again. Judging college is exciting, a little frightening and totally invigorating. It will make you become a better judge. It will give you the opportunity to network with a lot of judges and coaches outside your small community.

Just like the JO season, the NCAA season is up in the air. The colleges do have their schedules and the championships have been advertised. In order to be prepared, we need to enter our availability, accept our assignments and take the open book test.

There have been some changes in the timeline to get your NCAA judging information into the system. Please see the key dates below.

Collegiate Assigning Timeline –

Aug. 25, 2020

First day to begin entering information and availability. This year, judges will NOT be required to take the open book exam before entering their availability.

Sept. 25, 2020

Officials should have availability entered by this date.

Oct. 16, 2020

Assigning of Invitationals begins.

Oct. 30, 2020

Assigning begins. This is a date change for the 2021 season only. You should receive an email alert when an assignment has been entered in the system for you. You have five days to respond. Detailed information on judge’s fees and payment information will be available on the JAS site once you receive an assignment.

Once an assignment is accepted, it is considered a verbal contract until the contract requesting a signature arrives from the school. Once an assignment is accepted, it cannot be declined except for extreme circumstances. Your Regional Assigner will need to be contacted along with the school. If you can NOT logistically get to meet on a weekend when you have another meet scheduled – do NOT decline. Call the Assigner. (If you decline a meet – you will be removed from any other meet you have accepted on that weekend.)

Nov. 15, 2020

Institutions are notified by Regional Assigner when the assigning of officials is completed. Institutions should begin sending out contracts. Travel should be arranged by the institutions. Read the contracts before you sign them. You may not request additional expenses which have not been specified in the contract. Compensation follows the NCAA Compensations Guidelines 2021 for expenses. That guide is available at NAWGJ.org under NCAA and in the “Help” section of this JAS site. Individual schools/conferences set the fee schedule for each institution.

Judges must pass the open book exam by December 15, to retain their assigned meets.
